Seiko Watch Corporation is a Japanese company that specializes in the production of wristwatches, clocks, and electronic devices. The company was founded in 1881 by Kintaro Hattori in Tokyo, Japan. Originally named Seikosha, the company started out producing clocks before moving into the production of pocket watches in 1895.
One of the most interesting and distinctive watches from the 1970s, this is a treasured timepiece, always popular and unique! This is a vintage Seiko true Pogue chronograph automatic wristwatch, ref. 6139-6002 and dated from October 1974 – All original!
The Seiko “Pogue” has earned the nickname since Colonel William R. Pogue wore a similar watch during a NASA Skylab mission in 1973, making it the first automatic chronograph to be worn in space. Colonel Pogue wore a 6139-6005 “Resist” model, today we have a 6139-6002 model made for the international market. Also, later Seiko Pogue models did not have the “Resist” or earlier “Proof” text on the left side to indicate water resistance.
It is a self-winding watch powered by an original Seiko automatic chronograph (60 seconds – 30 minutes – pillar wheel – no manual wind) movement with a sophisticated eccentric self-winding mechanism with just one gear stage. It features the caliber 6139A, 17 jewels, day/date indicator (day quicksets by pushing the crown deeper, 2 languages / date quicksets by pushing the crown less deep), 45 hours power reserve, 21,600 A/h, Japan made. Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men’s watches typically measure between 29-36mm wide (some larger, some smaller) excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women’s watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than today's offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.
We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust lighting when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.
The condition is pre-owned.
The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear but is fully operational and functions as intended. Please review the photos and feel free to ask any questions you may have. It will be carefully packed.
